When you come to us, you come to a family. Angelika and Markus Selbertinger have run the Alpenhotel Hundsreitlehen since 1998, and their twins Hannah and Andreas are involved heart and soul – three generations live here under one roof.
The house stands in the middle of a mountain flower meadow above the climatic health resort of Bischofswiesen. Up here it is quiet, the view stretches far across the Berchtesgadener Land, and Lake Königssee, the Watzmann and Salzburg are all close at hand.

Chapter 1 · 1387
In 1387 the estate is first mentioned in a document. The tenant is a man named Hunt – said to be of Irish origin. He clears the slope, “reuten” in old German: over time, “Huntsreit” becomes the Hundsreitlehen.
Chapter 2 · 1906
Jakob Piedersdorfer buys the estate in 1906. The Hundsreitlehen has been in family hands ever since – in 1942 Maria Selbertinger, née Piedersdorfer, takes over.
Chapter 3 · 1970
In 1968 Michael Selbertinger takes over. Around 1970 the new main house is built next to the listed farmhouse – and with Elisabeth and Michael Selbertinger, the story of the guesthouse and hotel begins.
Chapter 4 · 1998
In 1997 the old farmhouse is fully renovated. A year later Markus and Angelika Selbertinger take over the hotel – and in 2001 their twins Hannah and Andreas are born.
Chapter 5 · 2000 – 2005
In 2000 the Kneipp pool opens, fed by our own mountain spring. In 2004 the roof is removed and the house extended, creating the romantic rooms and family nests. In 2005 the wellness area follows, with sauna, infrared cabin and relaxation room.
Chapter 6 · 2011
Opposite the main house, the Sonnenalm opens: two studios and three family nests with balcony or terrace and mountain views. In the same year, Maja Erler-Fritz moves her massage practice into the house.
Chapter 7 · 2013 · 2017
In 2013 the one-kilometre barefoot trail across alpine meadows, moss, gravel and wood is created, and the kitchen is completely renewed. In 2017 the panoramic terrace for breakfast and dinner is added.
Chapter 8 · Today
Angelika and Markus Selbertinger run the Hundsreitlehen, with Hannah and Andreas involved heart and soul. Our motto remains: when our guests are happy, so are we.
